Snubbing Units: Optimized Solutions for Well Maintenance
The depletion of hydrocarbon reservoir pressure is currently one of the major challenges facing the country's oil industry in maintaining or increasing production. As a result, the installation of downhole pumps has gained significant importance. Compared to drilling operations, the installation of downhole pumps is lighter, more frequent, and short-term in nature, making the use of drilling rigs for this purpose inefficient. Additionally, given the limited operational life of downhole pumps—typically around one year—annual maintenance and reinstallation operations necessitate the availability of a powerful, cost-effective, and optimized tool to address this need in the country.
The Snubbing Unit Advantage
A snubbing unit, which utilizes hydraulic force and heavy jacks instead of the bulky cable draw works used in conventional rigs, offers several advantages:
Reduced space requirements
Higher operational speed
Improved efficiency compared to workover rigs
Snubbing units are particularly ideal for operations in locations where sufficient space for drilling rigs is unavailable or where existing wellhead equipment restricts the use of heavy and large-scale rigs. Additionally, snubbing units enable under-pressure well intervention on live wells, further enhancing their versatility.
Our Expertise
PT Prabu Energy, a subsidiary of Lecommaras, has over 20 years of experience in drilling operations across various fields in Southeast Asia. In collaboration with KARA, the company is currently performing well repair operations for the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) using a snubbing unit.
Capabilities and Deliveries
The group has the capability to supply snubbing units with pulling capacities of 340,000 and 460,000 pounds. Delivery of these units to the port of Bandar Abbas is possible within 70 to 90 days of contract signing.
As mentioned earlier, these snubbing units are:
Faster in operation compared to traditional workover rigs
Easier to mobilize, ensuring swift deployment
Capable of performing under-pressure operations on live wells
With these benefits, snubbing units serve as a highly optimized and economical alternative to conventional well intervention methods.
